Road Closures and Detours

As Big Shift construction crews dig trenches in order to lay new hot water pipes, there will be road closures and detours for vehicles, bikes and pedestrians.
Active closures
Current areas impacted by closures to bike, vehicular and pedestrian traffic are:
- NEW CLOSURE - California Avenue and North Quad intersection (June 8-10)
- END DATE UPDATED - Kleiber Hall Drive, near Kleiber Hall (May 4 to June 10, 2026)
- END DATE UPDATED - Lot 25, north aisle (May 11 to June 10, 2026)
- END DATE UPDATED - Orchard Park Drive, near the greenhouses (April 6 to June 23, 2026)
- Sidewalk Closure: South of Orchard Road, near the ARC (June 1 to July 10, 2026)

California Avenue and North Quad intersection | June 8 to 10, 2026
The bike circle at the intersection of California Avenue and North Quad is closed to all traffic from June 8 to June 10.
Authorized vehicles are being directed to alternate campus entrances.
Southbound bikes on California Avenue are being detoured via Regan Hall Circle, Sprocket Bikeway and Storer Mall to reconnect with California Avenue near California Hall. Northbound bikes are detoured through Storer Mall, Sprocket Bikeway and Regan Circle to reconnect with California Avenue near the Cowell Building.
Eastbound bikes headed toward North Quad are being detoured south on Sprocket Bikeway then east on Storer Mall, south on California Avenue, east on Shields Avenue then north on West Quad to connect with North Quad. Westbound bike traffic on North Quad will be detoured south on West Quad then east on Shields Avenue to California Avenue.
Kleiber Hall Drive, near Kleiber Hall | May 4 to June 10, 2026
A portion of Kleiber Hall Drive near Kleiber Hall is closed to bike and vehicular traffic between May 4 and June 10, 2026.
Bikes and vehicles are being directed to take a short detour through Lot 26, directly adjacent to the closure. Most parking stalls within the lot are closed to facilitate safe bi-directional travel.
Lot 25, north aisle | May 11 to June 10, 2026
The northernmost aisle of Lot 25, near the Activities and Recreation Center, will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking to accommodate Big Shift construction. Orchard Park Drive, near the greenhouses | April 6 to June 23, 2026
A portion of the northbound lane of Orchard Park Drive near the greenhouses is closed to bike and vehicular traffic between April 6 and June 23, 2026.
Northbound vehicular traffic is being directed around the closure via parking lot 30 to Extension Center Drive to Hutchison Drive to La Rue Road to Blue Ridge Road to reconnect with Orchard Park Drive past the closure.
Northbound bike traffic is being detoured via the parking lot for the Colleges at La Rue to a bike path that runs adjacent to La Rue Road to Blue Ridge Road to reconnect with Orchard Park Drive at the traffic circle.
Sidewalk Closure: South of Orchard Road, near the ARC | June 1 to July 10, 2026
A portion of the sidewalk north of the Activities and Recreation Center and south of Orchard Road is closed to pedestrian traffic between June 1 and July 10, 2026. A small portion of sidewalk near the southwest exit of the ARC is also closed.
North of the ARC, pedestrians are being rerouted to the nearby multi-use path. Cyclists will be required to walk their bikes on this portion of the path for the duration of the closure. Near the southwest exit of the ARC, pedestrians are being routed to a temporary path connecting to the nearby multi-use path.

Sprocket Bikeway, Regan Hall Circle | June 15 to July 10, 2026
Portions of Sprocket Bikeway and Regan Hall Circle — near Lot 25 (the parking lot near the ARC) and the Segundo Dining Common — are closed to through traffic between June 15 and July 10, 2026. The closure includes:
- A portion of Sprocket Bikeway between Lot 25 and the Segundo Dining Commons — including the bike traffic circle between the dining commons, Lot 25 and Reagan Hall Circle.
- A portion of Sprocket Bikeway between Lot 25 and the Student Housing Administration Building.
- The loop at the west end of Regan Hall Circle, including the parking stalls.
Bike traffic will be directed around the closure to reconnect with Sprocket Bikeway along the perimeter of Lot 25 or through Regan.

Bike Detours
California Avenue and North Quad Bike Circle (June 8 to 10, 2026)
Southbound bikes on California Avenue are being detoured via Regan Hall Circle, Sprocket Bikeway and Storer Mall to reconnect with California Avenue near California Hall. Northbound bikes are detoured through Storer Mall, Sprocket Bikeway and Regan Circle to reconnect with California Avenue near the Cowell Building.

Bikes are being directed to take a short detour through Lot 26, directly adjacent to the closure.
Orchard Park Drive (April 6 to June 23, 2026)
Northbound bike traffic on Orchard Park drive is being detoured through the parking lot for the Colleges at La Rue to the bike path that runs adjacent to La Rue Road. The detour continues north to the intersection of Blue Ridge Road and La Rue Road then west on Blue Ridge Road to reconnect with Orchard Park Drive at the traffic circle.
South of Orchard Road, near the ARC (June 1 to July 10, 2026)
Cyclists will be required to walk their bikes on multi-use path north of the ARC to accommodate detoured pedestrians.
UPCOMING DETOUR - Sprocket Bikeway (June 15 to July 10, 2026)
Northbound bike traffic on Sprocket Bikeway is being directed around the closure along the perimeter of Lot 25 (the parking lot near the ARC) to reconnect with Sprocket Bikeway near the Segundo Dining Commons.
Vehicular Detours
California Avenue and North Quad Bike Circle (June 8 to 10, 2026)
The closure will only affect vehicles authorized to drive through campus, including delivery vehicles. This traffic will be directed to other campus entrances, including the entrance on First Street near the A Street intersection and the entrance on Hutchison Drive near the intersection of Kleiber Hall Drive.
Kleiber Hall Drive (May 4 to June 10, 2026)
Vehicles are being directed to take a short detour through Lot 26, directly adjacent to the closure. Please anticipate delays in the area and travel cautiously along the detour.
Lot 25, north aisle (May 11 to June 10, 2026)
The northernmost aisle of Lot 25, near the Activities and Recreation Center, will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking to accommodate Big Shift construction.
Orchard Park Drive (April 6 to June 23, 2026)
Northbound vehicular traffic is being directed around the closure via parking lot 30 to Extension Center Drive to Hutchison Drive to La Rue Road to Blue Ridge Road to reconnect with Orchard Park Drive past the closure. Please anticipate delays in the area and consider changing your commute route to avoid the construction area altogether.
UPCOMING DETOUR - Sprocket Bikeway (June 15 to July 10, 2026)
The loop at the west end of Regan Hall Circle, including the parking stalls will be closed to vehicular travel. No vehicular detours implemented.
Pedestrian Detours
Kleiber Hall Drive (May 4 to June 10, 2026)
A portion of the sidewalks on both sides of Kleiber Hall Drive will be closed. Pedestrians will be directed around Kleiber Hall to Storer Mall and around Storer Hall to reconnect with Kleiber Hall Drive.
South of Orchard Road, near the ARC (June 1 to July 10, 2026)
North of the ARC, pedestrians will be rerouted to the nearby multi-use path. Cyclists will be required to walk their bikes on this portion of the path for the duration of the closure. Near the southwest exit of the ARC, pedestrians will be routed to a temporary path connecting to the nearby multi-use path.
UPCOMING DETOUR - Sprocket Bikeway (June 15 to July 10, 2026)
A portion of sidewalk will be closed near the southwest corner of the Regan residence hall, near the bike circle. Pedestrians will be detoured through Regan.
