The scope of the Big Shift is to convert the entire central heating system on campus from hot water to steam. This shift supports our goal of eliminating fossil fuel use from our operations by converting from a gas-powered steam heat system to an electricity-powered hot water heat system. To manage this massive infrastructure overhaul, the project is being split into different districts.

Quad District

After over two years of hard work, the first district, the Quad District, is complete! The map below shows all the areas of completed construction, where crews dug trenches to lay over four miles of new hot water pipes.

What's next

Next on the docket is the Sprocket district, which is still in the preliminary planning stages. Once crews break ground in the Sprocket district, this map will be updated to reflect active, upcoming and completed construction. Please sign up for our e-newsletter to be kept up to date.
