The scope of the Big Shift is to convert the entire central heating system on campus from steam to hot water. This shift supports our goal of eliminating fossil fuel use from our operations by converting from a gas-powered steam heat system to an electricity-powered hot water heat system. To manage this massive infrastructure overhaul, the project is being split into different districts.

Quad District

After over two years of hard work, the first district, the Quad District, is complete! The map below shows all the areas of completed construction, where crews dug trenches to lay over four miles of new hot water pipes. Read more about what completing this first step in the Big Shift means.

Sprocket District

Construction in the "Sprocket District" is now underway. See active, upcoming and completed construction on the map below or see the full construction schedule. To stay up to date with construction progress and more, sign up for our e-newsletter.
